If you keep up with me on my Instagram or Facebook then you KNOW I am a KOMBUCHA chugging gal & you’ve got questions.
Questions like……So what is it? Why should I drink it? What does it do? Where can I get it? How does it taste?
Kombucha is a fermented tea that has been around for A VERY LONG TIME…like thousands of years old and it has some really good health benefits! It’s also known as the “mushroom tea” and is made from black or green tea!
Reasons to drink it…..
Probiotics, Antioxidants, it can help to kill bacteria (I always think of vinegar as a cleaning agent….. just think of it like a scrub a dub dub for your insides) and kombucha may help fight diseases and illnesses (Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease….)
Where do I find it?
In the refrigerated section at the grocery store (it’s next to the TOFU in my grocery store)
Can I make it?
Absolutely…..but I don’t. You have to be extremely careful to make it correctly and keep it active. It takes a week or so to make and the alcohol content can be stronger in homemade varieties. I buy mine already made and it has less that 5% alcohol in it……BUT PEOPLE MAKE IT! I just haven’t ventured that way yet….and I don’t know if I ever will!
How much do I drink?
Well that is totally up to you! I don’t drink it everyday but I would say around 6 ounces most days. I usually drink 12-24 ounces a week, just depending.
Is it expensive?
Well it isn’t cheap. Different varieties having varying prices but an average price is $2.50 a bottle.
What does it taste like?
There are varying flavors but most of them will taste a touch vinegar(ish) and fizzy because they are all carbonated due to the process of how it is made. Each one varies…some will be more vinegar tasting while others are a little less. The more you drink it the more you get used to the flavor!
Did I convince you to try it? It grows on you, so give it time if you don’t love it immediately. The first few sips are interesting and then you start to fall in love with it a little more and a little more. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
Have a HAPPY and JOYFUL WEEKEND!
